BCR competes in the Mid-Atlantic region, one of the strongest areas in the nation for junior rowing. The competition is fierce, with many of the regional clubs, including BCR, competing on a national level.
The sport of rowing has many benefits. It’s a great way to improve fitness, make lasting friendships, and have fun. No experience is required to join either the novice or middle school crews.
We are committed to helping our juniors become not only great student-athletes, but also exceptional young men and women. Our athletes are regularly recruited to row at colleges and universities across the country.
In the Fall of each year, the men's and women's novice squads consist of all first-year athletes, regardless of their age. These athletes then combine with the returning or experienced rowers to learn the fundamental components of the sport.

Once swimming skills, basic conditioning, and boat comfort (in a 1x) skills have been mastered, novice athletes will advance to the competitive squad of the program.
Our middle school programs are designed to prepare younger athletes for high school sports and are comprised of first-time athletes in the 6th to 8th grade. These co-ed squads meet three times a week and focus on building coordination, the conditioning of growing bodies, and the fundamentals of excellent rowing technique.
Although our middle schoolers do not compete outside of BCR, the spirit of competition is maintained through drills and competitions both on and off the water. Due to resource constraints, our middle school programs are limited and filled on a first come, first served basis.

Rowing is a demanding sport but the rewards are great. And we make a point to have our varsity athletes model the values of academic achievement, athletic excellence, and service for their younger brothers and sisters.
Rowers are recognized as being disciplined, focused, supportive, and team-oriented individuals. In the Spring of each year, the Novice and Varsity Squads combine into a Men's and Women's team and compete in various events in the following age categories: U15, U16, U17, and Youth U19 but includes seniors that may be turning 19 in the Fall of that year).
